Mawie Ananta Jonie (5 May 1940 – 1 March 2017) was an Indonesian writer/poet, often associated with “sastra eksil” (Indonesian literature in exile).

Born: Teluk Bayur, Padang (West Sumatra), Indonesia (5 May 1940)

Died: Almere, Netherlands (1 March 2017)

He studied journalism in Jakarta, went to Beijing in 1964, studied at the Beijing Foreign Languages Academy (and also sports-related study), and later moved to the Netherlands (from 1989) where he continued publishing.

Known works (examples): Nyanyian Persahabatan & Sebuah Surat Musim Bunga (poetry collection), and the book Anak Minang itu bercerita (2005).
